Home > What is a vacuum capacitor?
MEIDEN has been developing and manufacturing highly reliable vacuum capacitors based on its vacuum technologies and know-how accumulated through over 40 years of R&D activities in vacuum interrupters. In general, there are two manufacturing systems for vacuum equipment: a constant exhaust system with a vacuum pump and a vacuum sealing system at the manufacturing stage. Meiden Vacuum Capacitors have been manufactured by the vacuum sealing system, with a mechanism that can maintain the vacuum state for a long time.
High-current plasma with radio frequency (RF) generators is used to manufacture the LCD panels―thin-model, big-screen televisions for example―with vacuum capacitors inside the impedance matching network.
The LCD technology is used for photovoltaic
power generating panel manufacturing.
Vacuum capacitors are incorporated in the
impedance matching network of RF generators
for plasma generation.
Vacuum capacitors are used in chemical ingredients analyzers and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
RF generators are used in semiconductor manufacturing processes of physical vapor deposition (PVD), chemical vapor deposition (CVD), and etching, with vacuum capacitors used in the impedance matching network.
Vacuum capacitors are used in communications equipment, transmission systems for short and medium wave broadcasting, aircraft antenna tuners used in harsh environments, and various mobile communications equipment.
Vacuum capacitors are used in
particle accelerators and such basic
science research facilities.
The vacuum is the state of gas with an extremely smaller molecule density than that of air. (Air pressure: 2.7×1019> high vacuum: 2.7× 1010 piece/cm3). Since the gas molecule density is extremely low in a high vacuum, the charged particles (gas molecules) coming out of the cathode hardly collide with the residual gas molecules. The vacuum controls the breeding of charged particles after collision without reducing the dielectric breakdown voltage. Therefore, the vacuum has the insulating performance ten times greater than that of air.
